House Warming Party
“By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.”- Proverbs 24:3-4
This past Monday was a thrill for me as I was able to host our monthly Rise Men’s MONDAY NIGHT FAITH at my home. It was an amazing time as 22 guys met for a time of connection, dinner, and sharing life together as followers of Jesus and brothers in the faith. As the night went on, I was deeply moved and fondly recalled how some of the men present were also there twelve years ago as the moving trucks arrived. They helped unload furniture, place dishes in the cabinets, and even hang clothes in the closet. What normally would have taken months of going through each box, was completed in a matter of hours by the church family!
When it comes to our faith foundation, there is way more that goes into the house being furnished, inhabited, and uniquely designed than just able bodies, big muscles, and strong backs. That February 2008 move-in day is a wonderful reminder of the help and support that is needed to make a house a home. The question that I want to pose today is this, “What help are you receiving to see your life formed and filled?” In Matthew 7:24 Jesus said, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” The answer to the SUPPORT and STRENGTH we need for our dwelling comes through His Word.
We need the Living Word, the Holy Scriptures, the unfailing promises of God to guide our steps, broaden our path, to smooth over the rocky places, and to light up our homes. At the end of David’s life, in 2 Samuel 22:31, 36-37, he declares in song, “As for God, His way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; He shields all those who take refuge in Him…You make Your saving help my shield; Your help has made me great. You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way.”
May we each allow the Lord’s Word to supply help and strength to the areas of our lives that need to be comforted, established and filled.
Allow the Holy Spirit to deposit seeds of truth that bring peace and freedom.
Allow daily times of reading the Word to direct your words and deeds, your interactions and activities, your thoughts and your cares.
Allow specific Scriptures to become promises of hope that you stand on, wait for, and are utterly convinced of.
You do not have to do life alone, you do not have to unpack all the boxes, and you do not have to be empty on the inside. There is help for you, there is strength for you, there is a God move for you! Psalm 119:28 declares, “My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to Your Word.”
