Chasing Waterfalls
“But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!”- Amos 5:24
Recently someone ended their text with, “Who’d have ever believed we’d still be here in mid-August?” It is hard to believe it has been over five months since we have met INSIDE for a Sunday service (we have outdoor service on Sundays @ 5 pm). It is hard to believe that the 2020-21 school year has started remotely. It is hard to believe that some will continue working from home through the end of the year. It is hard to believe that the summer is coming to an end without going to the pool, movies, favorite restaurants, and Oaks Mall.
Even with all of these “hard to believe” challenges, as people of faith we are to continue to BELIEVE for saving grace, daily mercies, and powerful breakthrough! Romans 8:24-25 tells us, “For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.” As we believe for God’s victory to come in this season, I want to draw your attention to these things:
In our need for a miracle, we must be careful not to be like the crowds (John 6) who simply wanted Jesus to give them more food.
In our need for healing, we must be careful to not be like Naaman (2 Kings 5) who had pre-determined the way his healing would come.
In our need for victory, we must be careful to not be like King Saul (1 Samuel 13) who hastily took matters into his own hands.
The image/picture the Holy Spirit gave me recently was that of a WATERFALL and WAVES. In our desperate and urgent need for breakthrough we sometimes look for a waterfall: a miracle that is so powerful that the problem disappears instantly. The trouble is that we are not built to stand under a mighty waterfall. It would end up crushing us. Even though we want this season to end, we want COVID to be done away, and we desire peace, I believe the Lord is calling us (much like He did the disciples and crowds in the Gospels) to stand at the SHORE. As we listen to Jesus, wait on His promises, and follow His instructions, we will find wave after wave of mercy, grace, encouragement, and daily provision coming our way. Let us receive the daily blessings and the continual flow of His love in such a way that it fills us in this season and leads us through and out of this season.
