My Superhero

"Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do.”- Philippians 3:17

Kids of all ages (and kids at heart) will be dressing up over the next couple of weeks for school parades, church events, parties, and to go trick or treating in their neighborhoods. These colorful costumes will include Disney Princesses, certain professions, famous athletes and performers, the attention-grabbing DIY (Do It Yourself), and of course, superheroes.

Normally my superhero of choice is hands down Spiderman. But the amazing web-slinger must stand down today, as I pay respect to my true superhero, my pastor and spiritual father, SCOTT BAUER. In 1 Corinthians 4:15 Paul writes, “Even if you had ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel.” This week marks the twentieth anniversary of Pastor Scott’s sudden and way to soon homegoing into eternal glory.

Today (and often throughout the year) I take time to reflect on the GIFT Pastor Scott was to so many and the IMPACT he has made on me. He moved with a rare and special quality that was worth noting and emulating. He had a passion to reach the lost, a heart to worship God, a love for the Scriptures, a keen awareness and willingness for the move of the Holy Spirit, a faithful and selfless labor in serving the Lord Jesus and His Bride (The Church). There is nobody I know who better modeled Colossians 3:17, “Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to Him.”

Upon his death, a word was given which was not only reassuring then but is resoundingly taking place today! It comes from John 12:24 where Jesus says, “Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies it produces many seeds.” Pastor Scott’s life is still bearing fruit for the gospel through his influence on leaders everywhere, which includes the profound mark he made on my life as a man of God, husband, father, and pastor.

Today I honor my pastor, spiritual dad, and a true superhero of the faith!
