Prayer Walks

Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim You, who walk in the light of Your presence, Lord.”

- Psalm 89:15

Not all WALKS are created equal. As much as I love taking in the outdoors, connecting with Joanie, and getting some exercise, there are certain walks that I will never forget. Climbing up to the top of the Great Wall in China, hiking up to a mountain peak in a small town in Alaska, and walking through a village in South Africa, highlight some of my favorites.

The good news is that we do not have to travel to far-away places to have breathtaking, memory making, and life changing walks. I would suggest that one of the things that will bless you and bring you closer to God is to schedule a PRAYER WALK. From taking a stroll through the neighborhood to taking the dog out on a walk, we have the amazing opportunity to spend time with God (just like Adam and Eve did each afternoon in the Garden). I have found these times to be irreplaceable and powerful parts of my day. It is on these prayer walks that I find myself…

removing the guard over my heart, by giving God the hurts, fears, and desires that I am holding onto.

choosing to speak thanksgiving for God’s love and goodness, rather than being consumed by the tough things happening in my life and our world.

settling into a place of peace and rest, not anxious about fixing what went wrong the day before, finishing all that is on my “to do” list for the day ahead, or fretting over what tomorrow will bring.

In John 8:12 Jesus said, “I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. These walks with the Savior of the world will make all the difference in the world! As you make prayer walks a regular part of your life (daily or weekly) you will see results. When Joshua walked around Jericho, he saw the walls of that great city collapse. When Peter got out of the boat, he found himself miraculously walking on water. When Ruth walked through Boaz’s field, she found unmerited favor and abundant provision.

Galatians 5:25 tells us, “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you as you walk with Him. You will draw closer to God, you will find peace for what is troubling you, you will find yourself focusing on good things, and you will find your faith growing stronger. Take a prayer walk TODAY to experience all of God’s goodness and reach new heights!
