Quality in the Queue

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen in eternal.”- 2 Corinthians 4:18

During worship this weekend, I found myself distracted by a series of thoughts.  Rather than being focused on giving praise to Jesus, I was busy mapping out my schedule, troubleshooting challenges, and fretting over feelings of insecurity.  With my mind racing, the Holy Spirit was calling me to a place of resting. I needed to receive the powerful word from Pastor Joanie who shared that the result of our waiting is to find and know God more.  Lamentations 3:26 says, “It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

As hard as it is to wait, there is QUALITY found in the QUEUE of life.  A QUEUE is a line where one waits to be attended or proceed forward. The present culture has taught us to be experts in multi-tasking, but the Lord wants to form in us an undivided focus and uninterrupted fellowship with Him.  In Psalm 86:11 David confesses, “Teach me Your way, Lord, that I may rely on Your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear Your name.”

We need to adopt the same attitude of waiting and focus that we have when our time on a customer service call is about to be answered.  When the queue has us next in line, we need to be ready.  This is not a time to start another project, start a conversation with a family member, start making a sandwich.  Our attention is on the call and getting the answers we need.

In the same way we need to be patient in our waiting and focused on our hearing from God.  Let’s quiet our mind when the train of thought moves at a frantic pace. Let’s stop to pray when faced with a pressing need or unexpected circumstance. Let’s carve out time to read the Bible to receive promises and encouragement for this life.  Hebrews 12:2 reminds us, “Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.

Let’s wait patiently and confidently on the One who has the help we need, the answers for this life, and the resources to move us forward.
