Table for You

"When the hour came, Jesus and His apostles reclined at the table. And He said to them, ‘I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.”- Luke 22:14-15

A restaurant for some fine dining and prime celebrating is often the right call for a special occasion like a birthday, graduation, or anniversary. This may sound strange, but I have even heard that some folks prefer to dine at a restaurant on Thanksgiving! For the Zwerling family one of our favorite times of the year is visiting the restaurant where God opened an amazing door in finding a place to live in Thousand Oaks.

As we inch closer or travel at light speed (whichever you are currently feeling) towards Thanksgiving, I want us to see the powerful picture, the personal promise, and the profound place of GOD’S TABLE being set before us. Just as the Thanksgiving table is a place of fullness where we feast on favorite foods surrounded by our favorite people, the Lord’s table is a special place to reside with Him and receive from Him…talk about the ultimate TABLE FOR TWO!

- God promises a table of complete victory. Psalm 23:5a, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.”

- God promises a table of miraculous provision. Psalm 78:19, 24- “Can God really spread a table in the wilderness? He rained down manna for the people to eat, He gave them the grain from heaven.”

- God promises a table of eternal dwelling. Revelation 19:9, “Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!’ And he added, ‘These are the true words of God.”

Not only would Thanksgiving Day and these above promises in the Bible have us focused on God’s TABLE FOR YOU, but in this last season I received one of the most clear, profound, and encouraging words from the Holy Spirit about having a reservation. The word/picture was of someone going to a restaurant only to have the host/hostess claim there was no reservation found under that name. However, after another look the name was actually discovered in a different place in the reservation book. The Lord is wanting us to know that no matter what people tell you, no matter what circumstances you are facing, no matter what mistakes take place, and no matter what is written or unwritten, His invitation and appointment with you stands! In Luke 10:20 Jesus said, “but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

God’s table is grand and this Thanksgiving you are invited, seated, and filled by Him!
