Thanksgiving Day

It is good to praise the Lord and make music to Your Name, O Most High, proclaiming Your love in the morning and Your faithfulness at night.”- Psalm 92:1-2

I want to let you in on a little secret...Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I know that for most followers of Jesus, Christmas and Easter are at the top of the list, and rightly so. But there is just something about that Fourth Thursday each November: From taking in the wonderful smells of the turkey dinner, to having all the kids/family at home, to watching some football and spending time at the table sharing with each other, the whole day is a feast for my spirit, soul, and body.

As you prepare for Thanksgiving, I know that this Thursday may look and feel totally different than years past. There are many who love hosting family and friends for a grand feast, but this year will be a smaller (or outdoor) gathering; there are some who normally visit their families to spend time with their adult kids and grandkids, but with the rise in COVID cases, they feel safer staying at home. Whatever your Thanksgiving Day may look like, my prayer is that you would be refreshed, receive the peace of God, and reflect on all the good things He has done.

Make this Thanksgiving Day special by allowing yourself to:

1) Take in all the things that will bring you rest and refreshing. Enjoy the smells and tastes of your favorite dish; watch the football game, read a book, take a nice walk, or stay in your pajamas all day.

2) Make the most of time with the people in your home. May the conversation at the dinner table this year be meaningful. Allow a special time of reflecting and celebrating as you talk about the past year, big news in your life, Christmas plans, and hopes for 2021. May there even be opportunity to share Jesus and your faith in a way that it touches the hearts of those with you.

And above all of this, may the Thanksgiving blessing take place as you breathe in the aroma of the GOODNESS OF GOD. More than the smell of a great meal, there is the distinct delight and rich deposit of His perfect love. He has prepared a table, filled with all types of goodness, blessings, and overflowing mercies. It is available to you. Experience it! Enjoy it! Be engulfed by all of it! Hear the Holy Spirit calling you to a grand feast through these Scriptures:

Proverbs 15:15- “All the days of the oppressed are wretched, but the cheerful heart has a continual feast.

Psalm 23:5- “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.”

1 Peter 2:2-3- “Like newborn babies, crave the pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.”

Revelation 19:9- “Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!’ And he added, ‘These are the true words of God.”
